My answer?... "Not At All"... Many times in life, I've gone out of my way to do something "nice" or "right", and many times, I've somehow reaped less than the most desireable outcome from it...
but right when I'm starting to think shitty about it all, I remind myself that we don't do good deeds FOR the "reward"... we do them because it needed to be done... and IF, for some reason, we don't get the Nobel Prize for it, so what??? We still know we did the right thing, and that's always been quite enough, to soothe my savage spirit...
Hell, I'm my own worst critic, anyway... so if I am pleased with my work, I could care less about receiving accolades from others for it....
Update: October 30, 2009. hrdman hit the nail on the head.... Even if NOBODY notices your good deed or actions, at least YOU can go to sleep, knowing you did what was right & good to do.
Besides, deep down inside, even the worst of haters will HAVE to admit to themselves, that you did the right thing, are somehow better than they are, and just knowing that they have to eat that bile right back down and choke on it, is MORE than enough satisfaction, for me... - POP'd by bytor, A Rebel, Male, 36-45, Pittsburgh, Managerial |
