I had a babysitter drink beer while watching my 3yr old. I know because several of my mom friends told me after the fact. Long story short, I am a single mom and had the flu last week. I'd hired a babysitter to take by child to a daytime birthday party so I could sleep on a saturday afternoon. On Sunday, I phoned my other mom friends to ask about the party. Two of them told me the babysitter had several beers. I confronted the babysitter and this is what she said:
"I couldn't understand why you would send me to that type of party because -everyone- was drinking. So I had one sip of a beer to be polite and put it down. After a few hours I thought it was safe to drive home, because I wasn't even buzzed. But I just could not believe the type of party you sent me to."
My friends are not the drinking types. I myself do not even drink or serve it at parties.
I am so incredibly livid. Not only is she lying, but she is trying to make it -my- fault for sending her to "that type of party".
WTF? Do I have a right to be livid??? I need to vent and get feedback, because -as a single mom- all my friends are now tucked in with their husbands and families. HELP!!
Update: October 24, 2009. Thankyou for the intelligent responses.
I am shocked that people judge a single mom for hiring childcare. I am also saddened by the young people who think it's okay to drink on the job- as long that job is simply to watch over the life of a small child. Parenting classes should be part of our public school curricula.
Over and out.
Update: October 24, 2009. The hostess did serve beer. But like I told the babysitter, she is too old - 30 yrs old- to pay attention to peer pressure? Apart from being paid to watch a child, not party. Also, it's a healthy community here, and the parents I associate with are not big drinkers. - Asked by A Trendsetter, Female, 29-35 |
