Safe....?
Safe....? / Sex & Intimacy / 10:27 PM - Tuesday July 13, 2004
A Creative (Female, Kansas City, 22-25) asked:

My boyfriend and I are starting to get serious and have talked about sex. I got on birth control a couple weeks ago, and he wants to wait until it's effective to have sex so we don't have to use condoms. I've offered to have sex before this, I've even bought condoms for us. But he's really against the condom issue. So my question is: Is sex safe without condoms even if I'm on birth control? We've also discussed adding the "withdrawel" method as another form of birth control.

If you use birth control effectively (ie take the pill everyday at the same time) you will not get pregnant even if he does not pull out.

Condoms are not just about birth control. I don't like condoms either, but to prevent STD's it is a good idea to use them. If your guy is disease free, and he has medical proof of that, and you are disease free and have medical proof, then not using a condom would be safe from the viewpoint of neither of you getting an STD. Your birth control should prevent pregnancy as long as you follow directions and nothing else you take into your body (drugs, smoking, certain foods, etc.) alters it.

The withdrawal method is not particularly effective. Even sperm on the outside of your vagina can possibly migrate in, and if he is like most guys, when he is ready to climax, he probably cannot pull out fast enough to not leave a little semen inside you.

Ive been in the same situiation as you before, and now I have a 2 year old daughter! Dont just think that because you are on BC that you will not get pregnant, because you are alway left with that possibility. I was on the depo shot when I concieved. Also, their is a possibility that you coujld become pregnant and miscarry due to the BC still being in your body. But keep in mind, this doesnt happen to most people. But just remember, a box of condoms is cheaper then a baby or STD prescription.

If he doesn't want to use rubbers, he won't pull out! He's looking to get his nuts off bareback and inside you.
You can get STD's if your on the Pill, it doesn't protect you.
Guys will tell you they'll pull out, but they'll "accidentally" blow their load in you and leave you with a package.

No, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but it is not safe. Birth control is effective to prevent fertilization (conception) but that's all. Like the birth control pill ad says, "the pill does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases." So you could still end up with something like herpes.
The withdrawal method is useless, where you are relying on chance that no cowper's gland fluid leaked into your system. That usually contains sperm, and is not reliable, at all.
I have an idea. Why not wait until marriage to share that part of yourselves? You can't mess up if you keep your clothes on.
