Why do black folks think they've got it bad?????

The wealtheist woman in the world is black. the most powerful man in the world is black. Pretty good considering they both live in a majority white country. Tides have turned folks....can we all just get along now????

Blacks do face more discrimination than other groups, but a lot of it they do to themselves.

For example, when I lived in South Carolina, I had a friend who was an educated black woman. Very educated, very smart. She was very lonely because the white people would not approach her at social gatherings - she had to take all the initiative, etc., and that gets old after a while. But the black people also were harsh with her - they thought she was "uppity" or something for being a smart, educated, professional black woman.

Now, granted this was a small town and this was 20 years ago... but I have known black friends who have gotten flak from other blacks for "acting white".

The reality is that aside from a few genes out of 3.1 billion, all races are the same. The problems black people experience are partially due to problems with black culture, but have no genetic basis. For example, the reason there are so many black boys who turn to crime - they grow up in fatherless households.

Black men who grow up with their father in the house are just as unlikely to be criminals as white men who grow up with dad at home. Black children who are challenged to achieve will do just as well on tests as white children. My parents are from Asia - the reason we outperform white kids in school - our parents pushed us harder, so we worked harder. If black parents pushed their kids as hard, the kids would overachieve, too.

I think 90% of the difference between the way different races fare in terms of academic achievement, etc., is cultural differences. The remaining 10% might be due to things like discrimination, environment, etc. But I think what really hurts black people is cultural factors that they impose on themselves, things like telling a high achieving black kid he is "acting white" or not coming down harder on fathers to marry the mothers of their children.

I don't know, call me naive, I just don't see any reason people should treat different races differently. We should be a color blind society and just treat people based on their actions.

G'day, Sydney. The season there is nearing Summer. Enjoy!

In general, persons whose ancestors came from Africa aren't as gifted intellectually as us Europeans. Accepting the fact that we as humans are Diverse makes life easier & simpler.

I the olden days, physical ability was more-important. (Working in-the Fields & such.) Here in the U. S. years-ago, Marcus Garvey was the leader of the Back to Africa movement.

Actually my life is quite nice. :O)

However, as well meaning as you seem to be you do realize that the rest of the black race can't exactly live vicariously through Oprah and Obama right?

Also two people do not represent a tide...

Well put it this way...as a white woman, if saw a group of any ethnics who looked remotely "sterotypical", I would cross the road.

I guarantee that this seemingly innocent example is a telling example of how truly, fundamentaly racist we all are at heart.

This impacts all minorities...they feel it.

try being the only latina in the pta of a community that's 90% white. my children and i are excluded from birthday parties, play dates, etc. i am never invited to their ladies nights out or the such. i am afraid to throw my son a birthday party for fear that no one will show up. i am an extremely nice person with a big smile and a big heart. i've never been disrespectful to anyone and have always offered help with pta functions only to be told, "we don't need you".

the fact that i am the only one in the bunch with not just a college degree, but 2 college degrees and making a 6 figure income does not give me a free ticket into the circle of white people of suburbia. from what they can see, i'm brown and that's reason enough to avoid me and my family. the tides have not changed.

King 313 has said it all for me. But I will add in my own words, that just because there are a few black people that have risen to higher ranks in society, there are still others that no matter how hard they work or struggle to make ends meet are still being cast down in society. It's the standard that has been set and has yet to change.

black folk? I know we have cultural difference from downunder to the US of A but we dont use black folk, colored or any of the derogatory terms from the 1700 and 1800s.

but to the basis of your post, it has improved. I would like to see the study of % of african american millionaires compared to % of caucasion millionaires just due to overpaid pro sports figures that is dominated by African Americans. In football alone there is about 2000 millionares a year playing, 80% non-white and the draft makes instand millionaires yearly, again about 80% non-white. Im whiter than snow but I got it bad but then again, I been in some large city slums, predominantly black areas that have it real bad then you drive to hillbilly heaven where whites live in tar paper shacks, have no teeth and just survive on possum.
Things will be on a upward turn when posts like this disappear and people think of Obama as a president, not black president, Hillary Clinton as the very bright woman and not the unfortunate spouse of butt nozzle bill clinton and Oprah as a neat lady and not black talk show host.

It's obvious that you don't live in the U.S. Black people in this country DO have it bad! The majority of black people in this country are not living like Oprah, or in leadership positions like Obama! In the black community there is widespread drug abuse, poverty, illness, crime, etc.

i can't personally answer for them but it may have to do with the fact that throughout history the leaders of countries in africa have exploited their own citizens in order to gain power, wealth and status. idi amin comes to mind. and of course there is the tragedy of rwanda which was led by leaders trying to make a stand. it might actually be that many black folks do have it bad and that no one cares enough to make a difference.
