Offense and defense
Offense and defense / Career / 10:07 AM - Friday May 16, 2008
A Mr. Nice Guy (Male, Cleveland, 36-45, Executive) asked:

Read The Millionaire Next Door, the result of research with first generation millionaires. They're not typically bankers and lawyers. THey're electrical contractors, small business owners, dry cleaners, etc.

They talk about playing offense (making money) and playing defense (Managing their money once they have made it).

I think this should be required reading for all 22 year olds.

I love that book too. These people I've mentioned could fit there because most aren't famous by face--you didn't see crowds following Colonel Sanders around. He didn't live in a grand mansion. They started meager and for the most part, stayed relatively 'normal' as far as how they lived.

Anyway, it's very inspirational. The part where the Average Millionaire buys a car that is at least 2 years old is really inspiring as I've preached the illogical nonsense of car notes for a really long time. Lol That part confirmed for me that I was on to something.

It's so easy when you start young. I had my first M by the time I was 30.

I had heard about that book, but forgot the title. Most people really would be surprised just who has money and who doesn't. We always think you have to have a degree or some high powered job, but you just have to have money smarts and know how to manage the money you have. Usually when you have the high powered job, then you have high powered spending as well. Humble people have humble spending habits. Thanks for sharing.
