I read a joke today and I am not sure that I get it....


A cruise ship was going around an island when the passengers noticed a man on the island hollering, waving, and jumping up and down. So one of the passengers asked the captain about the man and he said "I don't know who he is, but he does that every time we pass by the island"

If any of you get this joke, please let me know what it means. I guess this is what I get for reading jokes in Penthouse.

The obtuse captain is ignoring a cry for help; the joke-teller finds that irony amusing. I find it a sick or at least pathetic kind of attempted humor.

Maybe they're too dumb to get that he needs to be rescued and they just keep cruising on by the poor man, and in the stupidity lies the joke.

The man on the island was trying to get rescued, so he signaled to get attention each time the boat passed.
