To anyone that cares to reply: Thinking of a big career move to police dispatcher from interior design. Bored with what I am doing now and wondering if anyone knows what the dispatcher work is like so I may make a wise decision. Thank you for any and all replies.

Wow, that is a major career change. I was married to a policeman for many years. The dispatchers have a lot of stress and lives will depend on you.

With interior design I would guess that the stress would be pleasing the client, deadlines, some difficult people.

Maybe you should look into touring a police station and talking with a dispatcher, perhaps spending some time with him/her to see what a day is like in that position.

If you are a calm person even under stress, are good at problem solving, are authoritative when needed you may be the right person for the job.

The benefits are excellent in most cases.

So, look into it thoroughly and see if it is for you. You could always do some interior design work on the side.
