My boyfriend (son's father) was thinking since i have my car paid for now that he should either fix up his beater of a car or get a used f-150 truck. Well he informs me this morning he has finally decided to just fix up his beater car and get a MOTORCYCLE well let me remind you he has NO life insurance of Health insurance so he ask what i think and i say "who am i to say anything if you want it than get it" "I just hoped he would get life insurance at least right. So he says he will get the life insurance... Opinions and comments wanted.

safety considerations aside

He gets a motorcylce as his sole transportation

How does he get to work in the rain?
He can no longer take your son anywhere, freeing himself from that responsibility.
What if your car is in the shop and you and your son need to get somewhere, how does that happen?
Can he stop and pick up groceries or do other errands on the way home?

I think a motorcycle is a great extra vehicle, but in your situation it could really string you up in a pinch.

The both of you should have life insurance anyway. He should check with his employer to see if they offer discounted insurance plans. Car insurance will cover any medical treatment if he were to get in an accident.

aww man I've always hated motorcycles.. they scare the crap out of me, and I have never been on one either, even watching someone driving it scares me. He should definitely get a life insurance.. but I wish there could be some way for him to change his mind!!

He should have life insurance whether he gets a motorcycle or not. He is a father, he should have life insurance.

I wouldn't rely on him getting life insurance instead I would take one out on him myself. Your not married and he could put anyone down as his beneficiary. Not saying that he wouldn't put you don and/or your son, but you never know, so it is best to take one out on him yourself this way you are assured that you and your son would be taken care of.

Oh and I hate motorcycles which is why my s/o is smart enough not to even ask and/or buy one! He has a dirt bike, but there are no street bikes allowed!
