A Jock (Male, 26-28, Technical) asked:

Ok, I just saw a commercial on TV for donating to breast cancer research...does this piss anyone else off??
I mean, more women die every year from lung cancer, than breast cancer, in fact, breast cancer only accounts for 18% of diagnosed cancers, and yet, they recieve 90% of all cancer donations raised throughout the world. Thats billions of dollars annually.
It drives me nuts...I will never donate a single dime to breast cancer, not that its not a valid concern throughout the world.
Any thoughts??

my mom had it. we did the race for the cure every year. she needed help to get a mammogram and we couldn't get any help from them at all. they say the money stays local for that type of thing. it is a bunch of bs. so i donate to the cancer society. they do all cancers...

I feel the same way about AIDS. I mean...obviously I want to find a cure...but worldwide the amount of people who die from aids is MINISCULE compared to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc. Yet..the get the most publicity AND the most donations. Go figure. I support cancer research..but for ALL cancers..not just breast.

The only thought I have is in the form of a question:

After all the millions and billions of dollars raised the world over in the last few decades or so, why do we not have even one single cure for even one kind of cancer... breast, lung or otherwise?!? It's all a waste of money so long as the drug companies are in control, and why should they want to find a cure when they're making so much money selling worthless drugs that barely even band-aid the disease?

In my case, I wasn't aware of the percentage difference. It would seem to me that it would be more prevelant given how much we hear about it so maybe there's the issue right there. THere is tons of media for breast cancer but not other cancers.
