Getting your breasts checked

At what age should you start to get checked for breast cancer. I have heard before that you have to be a certain age before you can go for a mammogram, but I hear more and more stories these days of young women being diagnosed with breast cancer. Some as young as 25, maybe younger!
There is no history in my family of it as far as I know, but I'm just curious.

Well breast cancer runs in my family both my sister and mother had it in their early 30s. I got my first mammogram at 19 yrs old. I had to fight to get it done because they don't usually do it on women as young as that. Well fortunately studies have changed and now they say you should get a mammogram 10 yrs before, your mother/sister/grandmoth er had cancer. So my mom had it at 31, my first mammogram should of been no later then 21. This is really for basline readings.

If there is no history then you really don't need one until your almost 40 yrs old, ask your doctor. As long as you get yearly breast exams from your gyn and do monthly self exams you should be ok until this time.
