Its your personal choice. You should always pursue whatever is of interest to you.
I am currently getting a double degree in accounting and finance. And from what i have heard from people is that, accounting gets boring after a while. If you like doing routine works, and to play with numbers, you will enjoy accounting. And with accounting you will have to stick to similar job, its a narrow field, but there is a lot of demand for it, so you are guranteed a job once you graduate. I am doing finance along with it, so if i ever want to do something else, i have an option. And trust me, when you take classes, you will know if this is something you like. I am not sure what degree you already have, or how many year of college you have done.
Hope this helps
goodluck..:)

Here in the UK you just need good Maths qualifications and then you take exams while you're in a trainee job. The exams go on for years and years...

is it possible to become a accountant? why would it not be possible?

Anyways it is not as narrow as someone mentioned. You can also go into Audit or Finance. You don't have to work at a bank. You could work at a brokerage house. More $$$$. You don't have to be a math genious either.

I believe it takes from 2 to 4 years to get your accounting degree. Most community colleges offer programs in accounting. After that I know that in my state which is North Carolina, you work as an apprentice under a CPA before getting your full license. I am not sure about other states. Have you considered getting your mortgage license? I got mine a year ago, you have to take a 8 hour class and then take the state licensing exam. After that you can work at any financial institution as a loan officer or you can work for lending companies that will let you work from home which is what I do. Pay is based mainly on commission but some do pay a salary and a commission. If you build up a good clientel base with repeat customers who refinance, the pay is outstanding. An average $200,000.00 mortgage the pay is roughly about $4000.00 for just one loan closed so if you were to close 2 to 3 loans a month you pay would be about 8 to 12,000.00 per month.
