A Cool Mom (Female, Dallas, 29-35) asked:

Can you stop taking birth control pills cold turkey?

This the first week of my second month on birth control pills and I lost them. What will happen to me if I can't find them soon (missing for one day). I definitly will not be having sex b/c I am not ready for another child, that's not my question. I am wondering if there are any health risks involved in an abrupt stop in birth control.

I looked on the internet and couldn't find anything I can't refill my prescription b/c I have to go back to my doctor for a check up to see how well I've taken to the pills and she can't see me until next week. Any thing you know would be helpful. Thanks.

I can't imagine there would be any problems in stopping during a cycle of pills, but you can probably just ask someone in your doctor's office to get an answer from your doctor and get back to you.

As far as I understand, no, there are no health risks involved with stopping the pill. I have done this several times due to depression and nothing happened. Talk to your doctor though, you'll feel better to have a professional tell you. And yes, please abstain until you can get back on the pill if you don't want kids.

Your doctor's office can provide you enough pills until next week.
