Birth Control
Birth Control / Intimacy (Rated-PG) / 5:16 PM - Saturday January 21, 2006
A Career Woman (Female, Las Vegas, 26-28, Teaching) asked:

I'm thinking about getting on birth control. I have an appointment to see my gyno this week. There are so many different forms of birth control available and I know my doctor will discuss my options and which methods would work best for me. However, I was just wondering which form of birth control some of you are taking and have you had any *major* problems with it? I've heard great things about the nuva-ring; are you any of you using that?

I was on the pill for what seemed forever and my only other birth control that I ever tried was the Diafram and that was the biggest waste of time! By the time my ex and I got the stupid thing in just right then neither one of us was in the mood anymore. I heard the ring is a good option and even though years ago the IUD was dangerus now it has become (ofcourse safe) one of the most popular birth control methods

I'm unfamiliar with the nuva-ring other than what I've seen on TV. I use the Ortho Evra Patch and I love it. I put a new patch on my backside every week and thats it. If I wear the patch every week instead of 3 on then one off, I don't have to have a period except for every 4 months. It is very sticky and has never came off unexpectedly. Its great.

The Nuva-Ring ROCKS!!!!

I just started it a few months ago (after smartblond recommended it) and I absolutely love it.

It looks like a jelly bracelet. You insert for 3 weeks and then take it out on your week. No side affects, you can't feel it.

Love it, Love it, Love it!

Stay away from the Patch ..if it is even a available anymore. I gained weight on the pill. Nuva-ring was perfect for me!

I am on Tri-Cyclen Lo , have been for 3 years now . I would say it is one of the best . Although I have never tried any others , I had no problems with this one which is why I stuck to it . It's a very low dosage , and I have not had any side effects . There has been no weight gain , no moodiness and my period has thinned out to a minimum . The only problem I found , was that after the first week of the pills , as the dose got a little higher I had some nausiousness . This may or may not effect everyone , but I have a very sensitive stomach so it could just be my own body . I highly recommend this birth control because it has worked for me , with no major side effects other than a little nausea . Good Luck !

Im 47 yrs and have been taking the Trifem pill for many years. In april I stop taking it ( need a break) have not had a break of pill in many years. on May 12mmm I was due for period and still waiting , mmmm. Could be other reasons due to age as to why I not menstral at present. Have Drs appointment today . However when on pill monthlies were regular, pain was low, menstral flow varied, and above all felt safe.. Now that off pill (only a month) my energy levels is better, moods are better, and not as fatigued.. Will be discussing other contraceptive methods today also. Have heard Nurvo ring is great .. Patch not that good. Will not have deprovera needle due to weight gain etc and no menstral flow for long time , I beleive women are meant to bleed when due.
Each to there own .. It is trial for all women I think and see what works for them, Women should be thankfull we have various options for all to try.
Goodluck.

i took that birth control that you can skip your period for 3 months on. but unfortunatly just about a month into it i got a bad brain aneurysm and have never been allowed to take birth control since. when they say women over 30 who smoke shouldnt use the pill ,they arent kidding.

i've been taking the shot and don't really like it. i always have cramps and have had my period for 2 months now. so yeah, i'm not going to be getting the shot anymore. plus i gained 10 pounds in just a week of taking the shot.

maybe i'll try the nuva-ring since everyone has nothing but good things to say about it. :-)
