A Mr. Nice Guy (Male, Sacramento, 18-21, Financial / Banking) asked:

Everyone I need some advice on a career.....

Is there a career that is both rewarding (high pay) without requiring going to college for 4 years?

Is there any good careers with a an assiciates degree that pays alot?

Any advice would be helpful. I just don't want to go to school for a long time. I want an easier alternative to education.

If education is not for you, I would highly recommend a trade. In the current career environment, education seems to be increasingly important. However, I have learned through time, that if you find something you love, then the money will follow. It will take time, but will be rewarding and satisfactory in the end.
Best of luck.

Nursing requires very little training and has some money in it. Or maybe an Electrician or computer tech. But mostly, anything that requires only an associates degree or less will be evry hands on and math oriented. If you don't have a problem working your way up, you can start out at a crappy job and advance through the ranks too. But just so you know, there isn't an "easier" alternative: work is hard whether you get paid for it or youpay for it. I took a year off before college and working menial jobs, such as personal assistant, office manager, and sales rep for a car dealership was awful. I am glad I went back to school. I would suggest taking a year off, living on your own, and seeing what you want to do: it would make everything much easier for you.

Someone told me a good quote a long time ago that has always helped me "don't ever not do something because of the amount of time it takes because the time will pass anyway." Nobody likes school. Would you rather spend 4 years being miserable and have a good job making good money for the rest of your life or the opposite? They say in 20 years a college degree will be as common as a high school degree. Think about where that puts you on the career ladder. Why would they hire someone without a degree when there are so many other people with one? Unless it is because they don't want to pay that person a good salary. I'm a hiring manager. Do yourself a favor and go to college.

Become an apprentice to an *honest* home service provider (plumber, electrician, lock smith, glazier, plasterer, etc.). This will mean that you earn money while you learn a trade. I say honest, because quality honest people in these roles are hard to come by, and once you are in a position where people recommend you to their friends you will never be short of work, and will be able to charge more, and not have to pay to advertise. People are willing to pay for quality if they have confidence they are not being ripped off.

Yes but there're no nice jobs. The highest paying one I can think of is fish packing in greenland. It's very high pay but while your there you don't see sunlight and can never go outside. for 12 hours aday you work in the same spot with no hope of promotion and pack fish. You sleep with up 2 6 or more other men in the same quaters and there are no women.

So you want the reward without effort? Sorry, I don't think life is that easy...in your case, you'd either have to be extremely lucky, e.g. winning the lottery, or you're extremely talented at something, e.g. football. That's the only way out of it IMO
